Biochemistry is the study of the chemical processes inside living organisms — how proteins, DNA, enzymes and other molecules function in cells. It underpins research in medicine, genetics and biotechnology, and it is the route into understanding life at the molecular level.
International biochemistry programmes lean hard on practical research. Students spend a significant share of their time running experiments and analysing data, which is where the employable skill actually comes from.

An international biochemistry degree gives you laboratory skill, analytical thinking and research experience — and the precision that working with sophisticated scientific equipment demands. Those open routes into PhD programmes, pharmaceutical research, biotechnology and clinical diagnostics anywhere in the world.
Biochemistry investigates how biological systems work at a molecular level. Biotechnology applies that knowledge to build commercial or practical products. If you want to be in a research lab, biochemistry. If you want to be in product development, biotechnology.
Not for laboratory, QC and technician roles, which a bachelor's covers. A master's opens independent research and clinical biochemistry. A PhD is needed to lead research or work in academia.
Germany — public universities charge no tuition beyond a €250–€350 semester contribution. The €11,904 blocked account is the main requirement.
Research and teaching assistantships are the most reliable route — both usually carry a tuition waiver and a monthly stipend. Apply for them at the same time as admission, not afterwards.
