The University of Eastern Finland (UEF) offers Bachelor's degree programmes and a great variety of Master’s degree programmes taught in English, as well as non-degree programmes that cater, in particular, to the needs of exchange students. Many of our Master’s degree students stay on board at UEF to continue their studies in our doctoral programmes.

The University of Eastern Finland (UEF), established in 2010 through the merger of the Universities of Joensuu and Kuopio, is one of Finland's largest and most multidisciplinary institutions. With campuses in Joensuu and Kuopio, UEF offers education in nearly 100 major subjects across four faculties: the Philosophical Faculty, the Faculty of Science, Forestry and Technology, the Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies. The university is renowned for its high-quality interdisciplinary research, particularly in areas addressing global challenges such as ageing, health, environmental sustainability, and cultural interactions. As of 2025, UEF is ranked #535 in the QS World University Rankings.

Entry Requirements
To apply for a Bachelor's degree taught in English at the University of Eastern Finland, all applicants must demonstrate strong English language proficiency. This can be done by achieving the minimum required scores in accepted language tests such as TOEFL iBT (minimum 78), IELTS Academic (minimum 6.0), or PTE Academic (minimum 54), among others. Language skills can also be proven through specific matriculation examinations, secondary education, or university degrees completed entirely in English in designated countries. All proof of language proficiency must be submitted by the application deadline, and documents must clearly state English as the medium of instruction, where applicable.
How to Apply
Applicants must submit an electronic application form. Required documents, such as educational certificates, proof of language proficiency, and program-specific attachments, should be uploaded as scanned copies to the online application. These documents will be used to assess the applicant's eligibility, and all deadlines must be strictly followed.
International Tuition Fees
At the University of Eastern Finland, tuition fees are charged to students from outside the EU, EEA, or Switzerland enrolling in English-taught Bachelor's or Master’s programmes. However, exemptions apply to those with certain Finnish residence permits (e.g., type P or specific type A permits not based on studying), EU long-term resident status, or residency based on family ties or temporary protection. To qualify, the residence permit must be valid at the start of the academic year, and proof of status must be submitted with the application. If the permit expires and is not renewed, tuition fees will apply from the next semester.
